To write clearly and concisely, avoid almost without exception. Instead, use the adjective most or expressions like almost all or nearly every.

  • Wordy: Almost without exception, the strikers voted to accept the offer.
  • Concise: Most (or Almost all) strikers voted to accept the offer.
  • Wordy: The stones in the old wall, almost without exception, had fallen to the ground.
  • Concise: Nearly every stone in the old wall had fallen to the ground
