Common means “belonging to many or to all.”
- Misspelling is a common problem.
Mutual means “reciprocal.”
- The couple’s trust and respect were mutual.
Avoid using mutual redundantly, as in "Canada and Mexico entered into a mutual agreement." (An agreement is by definition mutual.)
