censor, censure

A censor is a person who is tasked with removing objectionable content in books, plays, movies, television programming, etc.

  • In Canada, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission acts as a censor for broadcasting and telecommunications activities.

Censor can also be used as a verb.

  • His letters were censored for any sensitive military information.

The verb censure means “to criticize or blame.”

  • Pat was censured for her strong opinions.
