The noun expertise refers to superior skill or knowledge.

  • Professor Spencer’s expertise in the field of molecular biology is highly regarded.

The verb expertize, most often spelled with a z in North America, means to authenticate or give an expert opinion on something.

  • Ms. Gonzalez expertizes (or expertises) modern and ancient coins.

The British favour the ending ‑ise for both the noun and the verb.
