Saint John River is one of the names of pan-Canadian significance established by the Treasury Board of Canada. These names have official forms in both English and French.
Therefore, both Saint John River, in English, and rivière Saint-Jean, in French, are considered official. Note that the word Saint is not abbreviated in these geographical names.
