Under the Yukon Act of 2002, Yukon became the official name of Canada’s westernmost territory, formerly known as Yukon Territory.
The territorial government omits the definite article (the) before Yukon.
Y.T., the abbreviation for Yukon Territory, is still used for Yukon, since no official abbreviation has yet been approved.
The Canada Post symbol YT is also still in use.
